Chancellor,
I hope this letter finds you well. I shall introduce myself. My name is Liandor Misengrulf High wizard of the Great Cormyr Library residing in your district. Since you are new to this office, I shall bring to speed on my research. I have been tasked by each of the previous administrations to look into a coming danger in our lands. You have no doubt heard the ancient stories of Palenthius the great Paladin, but I will smarize just in case you have not.
Palenthius was once a great Paladin protecting the lands in and around Cormyr. Even the Elves of Cormanthor respected him for his prowess and rightousness. During his time there was a war, though no one now remembers either side.
It was said that a great sword was forged by the gods and given to Palenthius to end it. The sword was to be named Palidar. The was indeed ended by Palenthius and Palidar, but Palidar, alive with magic yearned for more glorious battles and convinced Palenthius to continue fighting. Palidar poisoned his mind, and the evil that lurks within all hearts of men began to beat with the song of glory. The two began terrorizing the lands. What was once good had now become evil. The Gods refused to admit any mistake on their part and did nothing to stop them. Many years of Horrors I do not wish to recall passed until the dwarves decided to put an end to Palidar and Palenthius. It is said that the great King of the Storm Horn Mountains, Gimbar the Magnificent gathered the greatest of Dwarven Clerics, Wizards, and Smiths together to forge armor that could withstand the dangers of the sword Palidar.
It is believe that Gimbar the Magnificent would never wear the armor as he would venture out before the armor was finished to fight Palenthius, now known as the Death Knight of Cormyr. His only Son Felbarr would take up the armor and defeat Palenthius, only moments after his father died at the hands of the knight. Felbarr Killed Palenthius and tossed the sword Palidar into the greatest chasm of his keep.
I, sire, have been tasked because we believe the sword has been brought back into this world. I believe that it is being weilded by a young barbarian in the north who has amassed a gigantic army that has begun destroying and pilaging the area. He calls himself Brungar and he calls his sword Palidar. He is spoken of in the above prophecy unconvered in our library.
The armor that Felbarr wore was held in Felbarr Citadel for many years. In his old age he decided that his four sons should leave and settle their own kingdoms. As a gift he gave each one a peice of the armor. Each son travelled out in search of lands to rule with their peices. I believe that the first of the lost peices of armor has been recovered. Garthur, eldest son of Felbarr was known to have fallen to the Dragon Hephetus. That dragon was defeated by adventurers only just last year. Hephestus was known as the Iron dragon. Garthur wore the Helm of his father.
I believe as well that these travellers have traveled to the kingdom of Brim, whose ancestors hold the ancient boots in their keep. If they are successfull in negotiating the use of the boots then there may still be hope. Only two more peices remain in order to confront Palidar and stop his current course.
Gauntlets worn by Glorent said to give enourmous strength.
Breastplate worn by Gian said to withstand great bolts of lightning.
Greaves worn by Brim giving it's wearer great Haste.
The Helm worn by Garthur, able to summon Dwarves to the Kings Call.
I leave this letter for you in hopes that my post will remain when I return. I have travelled north to seek these adventurers and help them as much as I can. I only hope that there is a library remaining when all is said and done. I may be able to help them in the city of Shade, where I believe they must travel next. Then on to Lurkwood. Where I dare not venture any further into the depths of our homelands deapest dungeon. where a greater evil may sleep.
Your Humble Servant,
Lord Christos Lorenzo Donato Augustus, First Chair of the High Cormyr Library, Wizard of the Tenth Order, Holder of the Book of Claudio.
